Unit:  1141st Engineer Company

Hometown:  Saint Charles, Mo.

Spc. Denis D. Kisseloff, 45, of Saint Charles, Mo., died May 14 at Forward Operating Base Shank, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using rocket propelled grenade and small arms fires.  He was assigned to the 1141st Engineer Company, Kansas City, Mo.

Hometown:  Lakeville, Minn.

Senior Master Sgt. James B. Lackey, 45, of Green Clove Springs, Fla. died April 9 near Kandahar, Afghanistan, in a crash of a CV-22 Osprey. Voas was assigned to the 8th Special Operations Squadron, Hurlburt Field, Fla.

Sampson Naval Training Station / Sampson Air Force Base
Prior to World War II the area within Sampson's boundaries was predominantly farmland but the outbreak of war brought a large need for facilities to train military personnel for the war effort. On May 14, 1942 President Franklin D. Roosevelt approved construction of a Naval Training Station. The base was named in honor of a local native, Rear Admiral William T. Sampson, from Palmyra, NY, a hero of the Battle of Santiago during the Spanish-American War.

Amarillo Air Force Base, originally Amarillo Army Air Field is located in Potter County, Texas, approximately 6 miles East of downtown Amarillo within the easternmost city limits. The City of Amarillo is located on the boundary of Potter and Randall Counties in the High Plains of the Texas Panhandle.

Lackland Air Force Base

Lackland Air Force Base

 Construction on Lackland Air Force Base began in 1941, and it was originally part of Kelly Field. One year later, it became an independent organization; the San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center. In 1948, the facility was named Lackland AFB after Brigadier General Frank Lackland.   As a result of the Korean War, training populations at Lackland soared.
